CCTV blackbox system

My car is fitted with a high-tech CCTV system to help protect my pupils. It records video to the front, side and rear of the car while also recording your GPS location and the G-force of any impact such as an accident or running over a pothole. It also shows your speed on a digital display inside the car which is more accurate than the cars built in speedo.

See the sample video below for footage from this system. Keep your eye on the cyclist....

The picture below shows what is seen when you play the video back. The front camera is shown on the left, the GPS location is shown on Google maps on the right. Bottom left is the speed and direction of travel and the lines at the bottom right show G-force shock such as when you turn a corner too fast, brake hard or someone crashes into you.

What is the point of it?

The system is there for many reasons. Let's look at a few things that have happened to me over the years whilst teaching

- In 2006 i was doing a lesson and my pupil pulled up at a roundabout. The person behind was too busy on his phone and smashed straight into the back of us. It turns out he didn't have a licence, nor was he insured but despite all this he insisted it was our fault because we should have seen him and got out the way. It took over 12 months of letters from solicitors to myself, the other driver and the pupil before the case was resolved. Think of all the stress caused to the pupil, and myself, for a whole year. If i'd had this system i would have simply played back the video to the police and it would have been all wrapped up within hours.

- I had a pupil once who got flashed on a speed camera even though we were 10mph under the limit. Nothing ever happened but if i'd had this camera we could have easily proven that we weren't speeding.

- On several occasions I've had yobs attack the car while i'm teaching. Driving school cars are targeted because they think we carry lots of cash and the pupil will stall if they panic, leaving the car vulnerable and an easy target. One of those times a brick was thrown through my windscreen and i was lucky to get away with no more than a cut above my eye. If i'd had this camera i'd have been able to take it further than i could from just my own statement against theirs.

We all like to think bad things won't happen to us but the fact is that they do. This camera is a very useful tool to fight back against the idiots of the world.

You can see more examples from across the UK where this system has helped people fight back against fraudsters by visiting my crash for cash page.
