New theory test

New theory test

A new theory test is coming in 2020.

The new test starts sometime in 2020 but it’s not clear exactly when it will be. The original start date of April 14th 2020 changed due to COVID-19.

Let’s take a look at the changes and what difference they’ll make.

New theory test video clips

Up until now the test has included a part known as case studies.

These questions involved you reading a short story which was about one paragraph long and then answering a question on it.

The story would involve something like you coming across the scene of a crash when driving. They asked what you would do next and gave you a choice of answers.

The case studies will be replaced by video clips which are a little like the hazard perception clips.

You’ll watch a short video clip up to 30 seconds in length and then have to answer a multiple choice question about it.

You can try some sample questions from the new theory test here.

Theory test delays

The theory test is not available at the moment due to Coronavirus closing all test centres down across the UK.

You can’t book a theory test at the moment until May 2020 although it’s very likely that you won’t be able to take a test until at least June 2020.

For the latest news on test availability see my page on Coronavirus driving lesson news.

That’s all folks!

That’s the only change coming to the test at the moment.

It really won’t make much of a difference but it’s worth knowing about. I like to keep people up to date with anything that’s happening no matter how small the change may be.
