When I can't help

I like to help as many people as possible, but sometimes my therapy isn’t suitable.

I am not medically qualified, and you must not take anything on this site or in my videos as medical advice or a diagnosis.

Let’s look at why, sometimes, I’m not the best person to help you and what you can do instead.

Suicidal thoughts and harm

Mental health issues

ADHD

Epilepsy and Asthma

Drink and drug problems

Unhappy/abusive relationships

Suicidal thoughts and harm

If you have any thoughts of suicide or harming yourself or others, you must seek professional help immediately. My therapy is not suitable for these circumstances.

Mental health issues

I can’t work with anyone who has serious mental health issues such as Schizophrenia or Bipolar.

These are contraindications of hypnosis, which means using hypnosis can make them worse.

Think of it like having a rash on your arm, which could be made better by a cream, but the cream contains peanuts, which you’re allergic to. Although using the cream would help the rash, it would harm you in other ways because of your peanut allergy.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

My therapy relies on your ability to focus and concentrate, so you may struggle if you have been medically diagnosed with ADHD.

I am talking about properly diagnosed ADHD, not just people who think they have it when they have never seen a doctor about it.

There’s a simple test you can do to get an idea if this would work for you: sit somewhere quiet, close your eyes and imagine yourself standing in front of your dream home. Notice how it looks, the sounds around you, and the air temperature, and then explore the house in detail. Don’t just run through quickly; take time to explore each room by opening cupboards, noticing the furniture, watching some TV, etc. If you can do that for at least a few minutes, you should be fine to do my therapy.

Epilepsy and Asthma

You have to be careful using hypnosis if you have either of these. It’s even more important when doing therapy online because I won’t be there to help you.

For epilepsy, there is a chance you could experience a fit. You must check with a doctor first before contacting me. You can see the rules for driving with epilepsy in the UK here.

For Asthma, hypnosis can potentially bring on an attack. You must check with a doctor first and have someone close by who can help in an emergency.

If you’re in any doubt, don’t take therapy online and find someone who can do it in person.

Drink and drug problems

My therapy won’t work if you have unresolved problems around alcohol and drugs, or if your driving anxiety began at a time when you were drinking excessively or taking drugs.

Those issues are very likely to be what your driving anxiety is caused by, and they are not areas I’m qualified to work in.

You may find that solving those issues helps with your driving anxiety.

Current relationship issues

My therapy is unlikely to work if you are currently in an unhappy or abusive relationship.

If you’ve had a bad relationship that has ended, that is different, and I can help.

This is because my work involves delving into your past to find something which is now coming out as driving anxiety.

A bad relationship happening right now is current, not in your past, so I can’t help. The stress from the relationship is most likely what your driving anxiety is, and even if you fix your driving anxiety, it’ll likely just keep coming back due to the relationship issues.

But isn’t driving anxiety a current problem because it’s happening now?

No, because your driving anxiety is just triggering something from your past. Driving has nothing to do with it, that’s only what causes an old memory to replay, and we can change that.

Someone abusing you now isn’t a trigger; it isn’t reminding you of something. It’s something that is happening right now in the present, and we can’t change that with hypnotherapy.
